warmer inland on the weekend but not a big jump up. temperatures i think will just recover and get back into the 80s. by the coast i still think 50s and 60s. system moved into the pacific northwest actually settled into oregon and the southern end of that has just been sweeping in low clouds. you can see how they bank up. they'll be a decrease in the low cloud deck because it's getting so cool aloft and also the inland temperatures have been plunging there's really not a lot to support it but it's still there. and every wind direction is almost out of the west or southwest. the delta breeze howling all the way to sacramento. two 60s, san jose and san jose state. but upper 50s and mid-50s. that system continues to carve itself out right out of the portland. for this time of year that's an extremely impressive system to make it that far and have this much of an impact. low overcast drizzle fog temperatures held in check cool for july no doubt about that. today, tomorrow bottom out and then a slight increase friday as we head into the weekend. still lots of 70s in areas that should be uppe

. the roof started burning at 11:10 at alcatraz and king streets. it was an enormous fire. big flames coming out of that roof. it's too early to stay whether fireworks were to blame. check out these images from over in brentwood, two homes caught fire. firefighters think it was the barbecue grill, no one was hurt. the victims from one of homes had only been there about three weeks had just moved in. they had unfortunately been through this before. >> very scary. we were able to get out in time. we know the neighbors were able to help us. it was a second fire we've had. so it burned down and the fire department responded really fast >> reporter: just incredible. now check out what they were dealing with out in the county. east contra costa county, lots of grass fires, half a dozen. the skies lit up with illegal fireworks so a lot of them on the ground there were a lost fires. this is in bay point. no injuries were reported from these fires and no structures were burned but again, firefighters say it's too early whether fireworks was to blame but it would be quite a coincidence that it just ha

street is worried about washington. late wednesday moody's one of the big three credit rating agencies warning it might have to lower the rating if lawmakers don't come to an agreement on raising the debt ceiling. in the statement it said the action was prompted by the possibility that the debt limit woil not be raised in time to prevent a missed payment on u.s. bonds with a small but rising risk of ashort-lived default. economists say if the aaa rating is lowered it will throw the financial markets into chaos and the cost of borrowing would go up to everything from morlts to car loans. ben bernanke warned. >> i think the worst outcome if we don't raise the limit, at some point we default on debt and that would create as i said before, a huge financial calamity. >> reporter: sources say the president knew about the moody's warning as he headed into wednesday meeting which all sides describe as tense. republican majority leader eric cantor cited the president as saying i have reached my limit. he left saying i'll see you tomorrow. the two sides couldn't even agree about what happened in

't have the big surge like we've had the last couple of mornings. we will start off with sunshine. sunrise over the big city. i look for inland temps today. normal high temps for july 20th. we are forecasting 92. it has been awhile since we've been over that number. calistoga 91 average this time of year. and gilroy 88 went slightly above. went 90 degrees. most locations inland temps have been so far below for awhile. coastal temperatures haven't been that far. they have been near average. there is still patchy fog going down the coast. you have to give it credit when the fog wants to form there is nothing to support it. so 50s and 60s on the temps. however, here comes another low dropping in so today looks like a warmup and then we will start to back off a little bit and see temperatures slide down. today unless you are right by the waters edge there won't be that much fog. it will be sunny and warmer for many. the fog will be enhancing and increasing. thick fog. mainly hugging the coast. and inland temps have no problem warming up today. so 60s, 70s, 80s, and low 90s. livermore right at

towards concord past pleasant hill on 680 southbound and nearly to highway 4 on 242 southbound. big delays in both directions. there is no indication on when planes will be cleared. when the chp issues alert the believe planes will be blocked for 30 or more minutes. this accident is about 30 minutes old now. our other hot spot is a westbound on the bay bridge. traffic is nearly at a standstill. the back of this to the end of the macarthur maze and even the the the approach is battling back up. bear in mind that one hour ago there was no back up on the bay bridge toll plaza. when other bridges are not doing too badly. the golden gate bridge looks to be a good. although it is under fog when southbound. despite the fog it appears that we will have another sunny and warm day ahead. >> here is the view from our roof camera showing you the fog and also sunshine as well. temperatures in the '50s and '60s. the sun will come out this afternoon, mostly sunny and warm with inland spots getting into the low-mid-90s. we're going to continue cooling as we head towards the weekend. let's talk more about

from southern california into our neighborhoods. lows from yesterday pulling away big trough starting to move a little bit and another reason i think a warming trend is well in the forecast. for right now, we have upper 50s to low 60s in many areas. we do have mid-50s around oakland and san francisco and santa rosa is getting close to a qaert of mile. by the afternoon hours, inland areas like east bay valleys will warm a little bit today while the rest of us will be stagnant because of the cloud cover early this morning. i expect by noon the clouds will move back to the coast and afternoon hours, you see the northwest wind and start to clear the clouds along the coast. low to mid-70s around oakland and san mateo and fremont, mid 80s in the east bay valleys. mid on 80s morgan hill and gilroy. about 68 in onto ray today. warming trend continues for everybody tomorrow and it could even be warmer than average sunday and monday of next week. good morning, sue. >>> good morning. a potential problem for commuters in the san leandro area. we've got an accident on the 880 freeway north on the

for the san francisco 49ers the team made some big changes in the off-season hopes are high that they can improve on last year's record. >> normally by this time of year, 49ers players are studying playbooks and attending a manager cams for a good portion of the off season, before the 49ers today is day one, the off- season labor dispute drama kept the players from preparing with their coaches and teammates as they would have during a normal year, the biggest change for the 49ers this year is the head coach position mike singletary is out and jim is in. he brought with him new assistant coaches as well as new offensive in defense of playbooks. players have not been able to see them till just recently. >> the only thing that did not like about was not getting to meet the new coaching staff, and not getting to look over the play book ahead of time to be able to go out on the field and the things that we needed to learn, the could given as a head start during training camp. >> practice will run until about 5:30 p.m. and then we are going to hear from them after. we will have more on today

a wave knocked him down and swept him out to sea. the 22-year-old from sunny vail was on the big island in the hawaiian park paradise subdivision when he was knocked into the ocean and carried some 100 yards. george kiriyama is live where he's being remembered tonight. george? >> reporter: jessica, his family is in hawaii right now, so we talked with his friends. they say he was looking forward to his hawaii trip and can't believe he's gone. climbing on a rocky cliff on the eastern side of the big island was something paul loved to do. >> he loved adventure. he loved to just have the wind blow in his hair and just be out there exploring everything and enjoying life. that's what paul did. >> reporter: police say he was climbing with his friends on the cliff and a big wave knocked him into the ocean. he was swept about 100 yards where rescue crews found him face down. a neighbor who lives next door to the family in sunnyvale says he was like her own son. >> my heart just sank. i'm sorry. he was the best kid. >> reporter: rescue crews performed cpr but he later died at a hospital. his best

temperatures in the 80s. they're really not getting involved in this big warm up if you're headed out to santa clara, they're getting in the 90s. but we're getting a lot of fog here. it's shallow but it's moving into parts of the south bay. so fog then sun, cool to mild to nice to warm to hot. depending on where you are in proximity of that fog and coast. it's a cool pattern, inland upper 80s. 90, 95 for those warmest locations unless you're really far away from the coast and maybe a few pushing in a little bit further than that. there are signs that next week another weak little system will come in which will start another cooling trend that won't be until saturday or sunday. 50s in these temps. concord 55. same for napa, san rafael. san francisco, oakland, livermore 58. and high pressure continues, i think it's put on the brakes. i really do. what we had yesterday is taking into today. maybe some tropical clouds coming around that. again it moves into the sierra of southern california. sunny inland, warming ends by friday, maybe even saturday. we'll have to keep an eye to the south. fog some
